Storage Site

For over 43 years, the Loudoun Museum has been the fortunate recipient of the generosity of the residents of the county, the Town of Leesburg and the Loudoun County government. Enthusiastic residents started the museum in the late 1960s, and over the years hundreds of residents have donated their family treasures. Today the collection includes over 7,600 objects, 98% donated! This "embarrassment of riches" created a challenging situation - too much weight in the Collections Storage space and no room to grow!

Thanks to the ingenuity and generosity of the County General Services staff and the Museum's Board of Trustees, a county facility is now the new home of over half of the collection. Safe, secure, and accessible for staff, volunteers, and researchers, the new storage site resolved many concerns about the storage of the collection and the museum's potential to continue to collect.

Upon completion of the Phase 2 Repairs to Collections Storage/Odd Fellows Meeting Hall, contracted by the Town of Leesburg (owner of the museum buildings) and executed by Madigan Construction Company, the furniture and fine art collections will be returned to this space. Weight issues are no longer a concern! Another positive outcome of this repair work has been the redesign of storage to allow for easier and safer access to the furniture, and space to grow the collection. Scholars and historians, students and special tour groups (small!) will have the opportunity to study objects not on view in the galleries.
